The Mrembo Project in Nairobi

Football & freedom are developing a programme to tackle human health right issues that affect 200 girls and young women in the Majengo Slums, Nairobi.

The Merembo Project has been established by our partners in Nairobi, Capital Area Soccer League to tackle issues of poor self esteem, harrassment and HIV/Aids through football schemes.

Wendy Broomfield, Football & Freedom said "we are building a membership of 200 girls and women in the UK to tackle these issues with empathy and also learn from them about problem solving, we are also working to establish direct links of travel to Nairobi in 2009 to see what is happening there".

As part of the Football & Freedom intervention, there are links with the Hull and Nairobi World Trade Centres to establish micro-enterprises to sustain the future of the programme with a new elevenforfreedom clothing range that will include a new logo specifically for Football & Freedom Africa.

The UK membership of the Mrembo Project is open to any female and will be launched in February at a Salsa Night in Hessle, details of this event will be published on this website.
