17th June 2009

DADs travel to South Africa for international football forum

From June 23rd to June 25th DADs Founder Rob Broomfield will be attending the inaugural Football for Hope Forum 2009 in Vaal, South Africa, which is sponsored and supported by FIFA and organised by streetfootballworld whom DADs are networking members.

For the first time ever, outstanding practitioners and other key players from the field of Development through Football from all continents including internationally renowned organisations like the Peres Centre for Peace will get together to discuss the future paths of the sector.

In the framework of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa, representatives from streetfootballworld network members, organisations involved in Football for Hope, as well as selected experts from the scientific and corporate sectors will meet for three days of discussion and networking.

Rob Broomfield said “this is a fantastic opportunity to meet influential people in the global streetfootballworld network and help to contribute to the bigger picture in the field of Development through Football”.

DADs is well placed amongst all the organisations attending the Forum, being selected as one of only 32 organisations to attend the official FIFA World Cup Football for Hope Festival in Alexandra, Johannesburg in 2010 with a team of young beneficiaries from Hull.

Rob Broomfield added “this is a massive coup for DADs and for Hull, we are really proud to be selected for this streetfootballworld organised event, its gets no bigger than this, Hull will be promoted at the greatest football event in the world, the selection process is ongoing for the team, an official press conference will be organised for September 2009 to showcase our acheivement”.

A special thematic focus of the first Football for Hope Forum in 2009 will be Africa, being the location of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ and, at the same time, the continent where according to the United Nations most of the so-called “Least Developed Nations” are located. Additionally, Africa is the focal point of development activities linked to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. DADs supports fellow streetfootballworld networking partner in Nairobi VAP, whom we problem solve and share good practice on a daily basis.

The Football for Hope Forum will be organised every four years parallel to the FIFA Confederations Cup, whilst in South Africa the delegates are invited to attend a dinner hosted by the World Cup Organisational Committee and attend a semi-final of the Confederations Cup.

As part of the on-going international football developments, recently DADs returned from Bosnia & Herzegovina where they attended Foca 09, the team all pupils from Wolfreton High School, Beth Dove, Lucy Evans, Lucy Russell and Sophie Johnson with team Co-ordinator Wendy Broomfield and Young Leader Will Broomfield in a partnership with Liverpool NACRO, they won the Fair Play Football Plate Tournament beating teams from Germany, France and Rumania amongst others, as well as participating in workshops to tackle issues such as conflict.

Wendy Broomfield said “the team that travelled to Foca were a credit to their parents, school and Hull, winning the plate competition was an outstanding success and they deserve applause for what they achieved”.
