Why Hull?

Background to Hull

< back

Hull situated twenty miles from the East Coast of England, alongside the wide and turbulent River Humber; misunderstood, alone and regularly derided…

Don’t believe everything you read or hear, the people of Hull are proud, independent and hard working, we have buildings of architectural splendor (both old and new), we are surrounded by a wide expanse of beautiful countryside and coastline with its extensive variety of wildlife, just within a stones-throw of the city centre (and with no major city for twenty miles, gives Hull an all-embracing sense of space). We don’t worry about the critics; we’ve got broad shoulders and thick-skin (occasionally we need that for the cold wind that blows off the North Sea).

Hull and its people, its influence and place in British history is assured and to be read about, the past has not been easy, and sometimes ignored; but now its future is assured, because at long last there is investment, and the right way of thinking. We have still got a long way to go, we might not always be top of the league in everything, but we have ambition and enthusiasm, Hull’s golden period is just around the corner, ignore the critics and what you read, visit Hull, meet the people – you might be pleasantly surprised to find we aren’t that bad.
